DON’T LOSE YOUR MIND, LOSE YOUR WEIGHT— Rujuta Divekar
‘Size zero’ figure, each one of us has talked about it, heard it and secretly we all wanna own to flaunt it. But how do you do it and whats the mantra, Rujuta Divekar presents it in her book ‘ Don’t lose your mind, lose your weight’. I loved the book completely, it was a treat to me. Its deliciosly served on the platter with no great recipes but the right ways of eating good.
Give it a thought, we rise in the morning and think what to eat, then again we work all day to earn to eat and the energy we need to do everything in life comes from Food that we eat. Even among the three most essential things- Roti, kapda, makaan— roti comes first and foremost. And still we eat just blindly and then take all great pains to starve, diet and crave for what our taste buds love. Do we really need to be so strict with us?

Well, this book discusses it all and I found it different because it helps to understand our food, our needs, our stomach and our body. Why let the dietitians and gym trainers rule our life, when we can use our own logic and learning about food/eating/weight balance.
The best comparison made in the book is about our stomach and car. Its the truth when Rujuta says We take more care of our car than our stomach. We keep filling it with all possible junk and are less bothered about its timely needs. I was impressed with the book because it helps you to understand your food and its constituents like never before.
One needs to know that our bodies need all nutrients; be it vitamins, protein, minerals and, yes, carbohydrates and fats! We are not supposed to cut off any of it from our food. I was surprised to read that even if you are on a mission to lose 15 kgs of weight, one doesn’t need to starve or deprive us of fats or carbohydrates. Cool na!!
Once you read the book, you can really question out some of the myths been carried for long. I would love to share some of mine where I met a second thought
I knew: Eating only when hungry– No.
BOOK says– Keep eating after intervals of 2-3 hrs but in small amounts so that you do not overeat at one go. She suggests 7-8 meals a day. (small and big)
I knew: In the morning do not eat for about an hour, give some rest to tummy– No
BOOK says– Eat within 20 mins as you get up and eat something not drink tea or coffee.
I knew: Diet food keeps a check on calories– A big No
BOOK says– Never ever fall for these fat free foods, compensation diet, detox diet, dry fruit or orange juice diets.
I knew: Over do and exercise day and night– Not really
BOOK says– Workout or physical exercise- 3 days a week that is like 3 hours in a week is sufficient to keep us fit n fine.
I knew: To lose weight, one needs to skip lunches and dinners– No
BOOK says– One can eat just everything just that you need to chalk out a plan to follow and divide the intake after regular intervals. Can eat just everything we love
Well, I am yet to figure out if the tips and tricks in the book work for me but I find a logic in the talk. I liked her idea of eating right and especially of eating at the right time. I have noticed this with myself that I keep eating or munching all day, I kinda feel light and less hungry. But on the most working days, I eat after a gap of 4-5 hours, breakfast at 8 and then lunch at 2 and than dinner at 9 so each time I am compelled to hog more than my body can digest at one go. In return its digested less and all stored as fat. Therefore I feel she points it right when she says its not the food but the timings to intake the food that matters.
Its a great book which each one of us must read not just to follow or lose weight but to learn about food, eating right and questioning our eating habits. I loved the book because it answered so many of my questions which I never thought they existed as questions.
Read the book. Question the book and Help yourself with the book.
Also for all those who didnot know Rujuta Divekar. She is the one behind Kareena Kapoor’s svelte figure
Happy reading while I continue with ” Reading 3 in a day“!!!
