Back to the wonder years–Epilogue

I got off the bike.Me and my friend were on the way to our first day at the Cat Coaching Centre. We just graduated from college and landed up in a decent MNC in Bangalore. My friend Rajeev had gone to park the bike in the cellar asking me to check whether I bought the Id cards which we were given yest .We were both roommates from college days and he knows a lot about my memory loss for trivial things and my laziness:)

Thankfully I hadn’t forgot this time.Probably carrying an MNC Id card for the company daily  did the trick:)

We were asked to sign a register at the entrance of classroom. This had all the  45 names of people in our batch.I found my name at the top as usual

“Roll No 1:A.A.V.S Vivek (Student ID:BG201054)”

It always had the privelege to be the first when sorted in  alphabetical order:).Probably by this time you would have figured out that I was from Andhra Pradesh.the initials say it all.By the way they stand for ‘Anaparthi Avanigadda venkata sai Vivek’ :)

I have this habit of looking the names at roll no’s 6 and 36 ,cos 6 was my lucky number and 36 had a story behind it.

At 36 there was a name I was familiar with. ‘Could it be her?’ I thought.

Me and Rajeev entered the classroom. The room had just started filling in.We took the second bench from the last and occupied the seats as like more of a habit from college. We quickly made few acquaitances around us.There were a few a experienced professionals as well as final year students.

I quickly glanced around to check whether she was there. No she wasn’t there.I thought there were many people with the same name.

Our Instructor entered the class and distributed the material. He started off with a few previous year CAT questions on the topic Algebra.

‘Excuse me Sir,can I come in ?’ I heard a sweet voice say that.

I casually looked in the direction of the voice

There she was-’Sowmya Ramesh’. When was the last time i saw her? a solid 8 years back .’Time really flies by fast’- I thought.

Rajeev caught me off-guard staring at her and gave me a intriguing look as if he wanted to know whats going on ?

I had once told him that my studies and career were because of a girl in my life but never told the complete story though.Rest of the class just went on with some more concepts and shortcuts.

Finally the classes got over and we were back to our room.I intentionally avoided contact with her.Over the lunch he asked me whats so special about this girl. Probably it was the time I told him the whole story…..

This is truly unfair.. there are many unanswered questions…How was the girl responsible for your studies and career and why didnt you contact her?
