Time per question in verbal?
by tanvi ahuja - Sunday, 9 May 2010, 10:32 PM

I tried going through the forum to see if a similar query had been put. But, I didnt find anything. I wanted to get a fair idea about the time that's appropriate to be spent per SC, CR and RC question. Currently, my average timing stands at:

RC: 9 mins (easy- medium passages with 6 questions)
CR: 2.3 mins per question
SC: a little more than a minute

My GMAT date is approaching and have taken a couple of mocks, where I have not been able to complete the verbal section. I am pretty good at Quant but am afraid that Verbal's going to do me in.

Please help!

From the mocks which i have taken, i feel

SC: 1min and 14-20 secs is good.

CR: 1 min 30 sec to 2 mins fares well.

and RC completely depends on the kind of passage which comes your way.

try putting a stop watch by ur side and read most boring topics in the news papers or any topic which interests you in the least. It improves your speed a lot.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Alok. I took a mock today and scored 650. I was left with 8 verbal questions in the last 2 minutes and randomly marked answers. CR did me in, I guess. I have been practising by timing my sessions, but my speed has improved only marginally. I guess all I can do is practise, practise and practise. Moderators, can you help with some of your gyaan??
