Reading Comprehension (RC) Questions from CAT CBT Club
by Dagny Taggart - Tuesday, 20 October 2009, 06:46 PM
cat 2009 cat 2010 CBT Club reading comprehension (rc) questionsYou know what is the best part about Entrepreneurship? You can bloody well choose to be creative. Oh yes, creativity can be a matter of choice. Each one of you has a hidden talent lying inside you but since you are so absorbed in your 'routine' lives that a sizeable part of you is left unexplored. Have you ever sat down to crack a question until you got the answer yourself? Well! who has time? And when you have the convenience of looking at the solutions, or a bunch of warm friends beside you, why would you even bother?

We 'entrepreneurs' lead a little different lives than most of you do. We have time but we don't have anyone who can gives us solutions. We have to find all our answers by ourselves. Is it a good or a bad thing? I don't know, buddy. But we like it. We are ready to bang our heads against the wall, and ask the wall to evoke our creative senses. Sometimes the wall responds, and sometimes it doesn't. It did today. We created some RC passages today for our privileged CAT SEE BEE TEA Club members. Out of the 3 RC passages and a few paragraph completions that we created for our CAT CBT Club members, we are sharing two RCs with all the members of TotalGadha.Com. We would be providing the answer key here but we would keep the solutions exclusive for our CAT CBT Club members. Your feedback would be appreciated.

It is also the time to ask one jarring question to many of you- Is IIM Ahmedabad still your dream? If it is, are you doing enough to get there? Or have you just fallen into the 'routine' of preparation with steadily falling performance? Those who have been avoiding our CAT CBT Club, why dontchoo come and grind your donkey butt there?

Good Luck! smile

  1. (a)
(a) and (b) seems quite close. But (a) is looking more plausible. The last line of passage put emphasis on his role as philosopher.

2. (c)
In First 2 lines of third para, Author is putting his views on why Einstein's personality was mythopoeic.
'Because He instinctively sought to connect a life in physics with greater moral and metaphysical questions'

3. (e)

He seems from the beginning to have construed his field of science as part of drama of ideas.
C.P. show then highlight his stories of playing violin to a cultivated club(saloon) which discussed Kant, etc etc (Drama of ideas)

  Hi Dagny / TG,

Good to solve those RCs. The answers were kind of close for second passage. But, I am completely out of the way in the first passage. Even after checking out the answers, I am not totally satisfied.

If possible, please put out the reasoning behind the answers... That would really help where I committed a mistake...

Just post the reasoning for those answers..

Thanks,
-Vickram.

Re: Reading Comprehension (RC) Questions from CAT CBT Club
by Amlan Das - Friday, 23 October 2009, 10:54 AM

My answers -

1(b)

This is a question of "Main Idea" of the passage. The author tries to project that how Einstein had built up a myth around him, and then goes on to explain how Einstein's views and activities had facilitated in the building up of the myth.

2(c)

This is a question of "Supporting Idea" of the passage. Answer is evident from the 3rd para, 1st line.

3(c)

The author after the quote of C.P.Snow goes on to describe the build of myth around Einstein. So, the author cited C.P. Snow's sayings to support his description of mythopoeic nature of Einstein.

4(e)

This is a direct question, with the answer given directly in the passage. 2nd para, lines 6,7 and 8.

5(e)

I am a bit doubtful about this one. Might also be (a). But my primary vote goes for (e). I have deduced this from 2nd para only.

6(c)

Equality, since in 360 degree evaluation, a person gets feedback from both upper and lower lines. And also a cubicle culture was first conceived with an attempt to establish equality ("utopian culture" mentioned in the passage).
